The
design of the detent is very important in determining the successful applications
of Vlier spring loaded devices. Improperly designed detents can cause
excessive wear on nylon and delrin plunger tips. They can also decrease
positioning accuracy and adversely affect the holding capacity of the
spring loaded device. As a general rule the smaller the contact angle
(A) of the detent, the easier the spring loaded device will "kick-out"
of it and the longer the nylon plunger tip will last. About Detent Applications SOLVE THE EQUATION: FS=Fe (Tan A) using values of (Tan A) from the table below. EXAMPLE: Given: Fe=10 pounds from catalog for S58 at midway travel. Angle A=30 degrees from layout. SOLUTION: From Table, Tan 30 degrees =.58 Substitute in above equation. FS=Fe (Tan A) = 10 (.58) FS= 5.8 pounds |
